Highly Illogical

Mr. Spock(Pass around image of Mr. Spock(Turn to John 15)
Q.) Name and something that comes to mind when you see this picture?
“Live long and prosper.” “Highly illogical.”
Q.) What is something you’ve done because it was “logical?” What is something you’ve done that was illogical?
Q.) What is logical? What are some examples of logic?
“If this, then that. This and that. This or that. Etc.”

We are not here to talk about Star Trek or Programming…so on to the bible.
How does logic apply to our relationship with God and our relationship in General?

1.) IF this, THEN that. (John 15:9-17)
What are the IF / THEN statements in this passage?
If we obey Jesus’ commands, then what? What does it mean to “remain in his love?” What one command is he camping on here? (love one another). Why is he telling us this? His joy in us, and our joy complete. What do you suppose Jesus’ joy is? (US - he died for us, so we’d have the opportunity to be friends with him.) What is this command and what are practical ways to live it out?

What are some things that make us good friends? Your best friends are the people who make sacrifices for you, of their time, money, energy and their love. Can you say you are Jesus’ friend and not obey him? Where can you learn to obey Jesus?
- sometimes we say things like: “My heart!” “My intuition!” “My prayer life!” “I Just feel how awesome God is!” “I am so inspired by God!”
Jeremiah 17:10-11
- So where then? John 8:31-32. Jesus said this (John 8:31-32) before he said “If you obey you are my friend.”
- Having a good friendship with Jesus means knowing what it is to OBEY him. If you are not familiar with the bible, GET to know Jesus. May a commitment to be his friend.

2.) This AND That. (Luke 6:46-49)
- “Why call me LORD, LORD, and do not do what I say?” Where do you find what Jesus’ says? Is hearing it enough? How important is it to Jesus you KNOW what he says? How important is it to JESUS we DO what he says. Logically speaking, Is it possible to say “Lord, Lord” and not do what Jesus says?
- What is an example of that? Has that ever happened in your life? (Share about MINE - before I was a disciple, and share when I left the church…)
- What is the consequence of living that way? How do you build wisely?

3.) This OR that. Luke 16:19-24
- Practically speaking: What does it mean to store treasures for yourself here? What does it mean to store for yourself treasures in heaven? HOW do you think you DO that? What are the choices here? What choice will you make?
